This site collects nothing about you
There are no accounts, no forms, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Every file these pages use, down to the typefaces and the code that draws the planet, is served by this site's own host; nothing is pulled in from an ad network, an analytics company, a font service or anyone else. The only record of a visit is the one every web server keeps, and that is described plainly below.
Your place and your phone's motion stay with you
Two things on this site can ask your browser for something. Both ask first, and you can say no to either.
- Motion. Standing on the Moon, a phone can steer the view by its own tilt.
- Location. Where I am, in From orbit, can use your location to show where your ground was in every world.
What they read is used in the page, in your browser, at that moment. It is never sent to us or to anyone, never saved, and no cookie is set. Leave or reload the page and it is gone. Where I am also works by tapping the planet, which uses no location at all.
Five small conveniences, kept in your browser
Two are remembered between visits:
- Fahrenheit or Celsius on the thermometer.
- The yardstick you chose on Scale: a person, a door, a school bus or a whale.
Three last only until you close the tab:
- Where you are on a guided trail, so a reload does not lose your place.
- Whether you have already been shown that there is sound.
- Whether the opening journey has already played.
None of them identifies anyone, and none ever leaves your browser. They are not cookies and are never sent with a request. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.
What the host keeps
The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like every web server, theirs automatically records each request for security, troubleshooting, abuse prevention and running the service. Those records can include:
- the IP address the request came from, and the approximate country it implies
- the date and time
- the page or file asked for, and whether it was found
- the browser or device it came from
- the size of the response and how long it took
How long they are kept is set by the host's own operational and legal policies. Hostinger also keeps routine backups of the site's own files. We do not use any of these records to identify or follow anyone.
If this ever changes, this page will say so first.
